‘Monkey city’ tattoos and sterilises macaques to end their reign of terror

Lopburi, known as ‘monkey city’, has started tattooing and sterilising macaques to end their reign of terror. The animals might be central to Lopburi’s identity and a major attraction for curious tourists, but most locals are fed up. Some businesses have had to install barriers or display stuffed toy tiger heads to deter monkeys from entering their stores and getting into costly mischief. Now, a mass sterilisation plan means thousands are being rounded up and held in giant enclosures. The Thai government hopes this plan will reduce monkey numbers on the streets and finally get the pesky primate population under control. Shot for The Telegraph
