The Craft of the Summit

Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand offers stunning cycling routes: from flat roads through villages and rice paddies to steep, challenging mountain climbs in the surrounding hills. At its heart is Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest peak. This assignment was to capture the feel of the journey to Doi Inthanon and Doi Suthep, and document the people involved in planning the route. The project sought to evoke the sense of adventure, show the camaraderie at the heart of arranging a cycling event of this scale, and a strong sense of place, so that viewers could imagine themselves on these roads and feel the heartbeat of the journey as part of the ride.
